| At the April shoot, the Marauders & Leadmine Gang celebrated the legendary career of Wyatt Earp, give or take a lie or two. Historians and debunkers still argue about incidents done or not done by Wyatt Earp. Some say some of the incidents attributed to Wyatt were really done by his brother Virgil, or by his friend Bat Masterson, or by other Kansas peace officers. Our reaction? Heck, we don't care. Whatever he may or may not have been, ole Wyatt was courageous and bold (as the song goes), lived in exciting times, was a tough customer to foes, and a valiant friend to his compadres. So, we celebrated Wyatt's history as a shootist of reknown. What does that mean? Well, it means that 46 shooters had a whale of a good time at the April shoot. We shot metal targets, like we usually do. We had fellowship like we usually do. We said "Howdy, pardner." to each other and visitors, like we usually do. We had a heck of a lot of fun, like we usually do. And then we did some other stuff. We chose teams of 4 and shot the OK Corral Shoot Out just about like it really occurred. (Our shoot out wasn't done in the OK Corral, but the real shoot out wasn't either. It really happened in an alley just off Freemont Street) We also had some Best Presence Contests. That was Best Presence, not best costumed. | ||||

Here are the winners of the Best Presence Contests: |

L to R: Shadrack Jones - Best Curly Bill |

Deadfoot - Best Doc Holliday |

Sundance - Best Wyatt Earp |

| The OK Corral Shoot Out was a side event. Shooters shot the event as a 4-person team, assuming the identities, weapons, verbal comments, and cane of the real life Earp, Holliday team. When the gunsmoke cleared and the echoes of the shootin' faded, the following team was the winning group: | ||||
| Wyatt Earp ……. Grave Maker | ||||
| Doc Holliday ……. Curly Bill (ain't that a daisy?) | ||||
| Virgil Earp ……… T-Bone | ||||
| Morgan Earp …… Wacky Jack | ||||
| The winning team shot the OK Corral shootout in 12.25 seconds. The slowest team shot the event in 25.21 seconds. Just think, the time it took you to shoot that one event, was the length of time it took to make Wyatt Earp & Doc Holliday famous, or infamous. Without those few seconds, we'd probably never have heard of them, and there would have been a lot fewer western movies made. All participants in the Legend of Wyatt Earp, Give Or Take A Lie Or Two, event (shooters and non-shooters) received a special commemorative certificate. If you weren't there and didn't get one, you missed a real nifty little certificate, if I do say so myself. | ||||

Did anything else of note happen at the shoot? Well, Trooper George wore 3 different hats during the shoot. Maybe that's his shootin' strategy. Just keep changin' hats 'til you find 1 that makes you win. During the lunch break, another interesting thing happened. Joe Kidd's paw was there selling custom made leather goods. He had one gunbelt that he'd made for ole Tennessee Hoss. The Rev Adam Jones was lookin' at the rig, (You know them Reverends are curious fellers), when someone said that the belt would wrap around the Rev Jones and Paw Kidd at the same time. Well, the challenge was flung out, the belt was wrapped around them fellers, and guess what? It really would go around both of them, and there were some holes in the belt to spare. |

| L to R: Virgil & Morgan Earp, Doc Holliday, Wyatt Earp, Ike Clanton, Billy Claiborne, Frank & Tom McLaury. When the incident began, Ike Clanton & Billy Claiborne ran away. The McLaury’s and Ike’s younger brother Billy were killed. This was the most famous shoot-out in the history of the old west. It lasted no more than 30 seconds. | ||||
