48 SHOOTERS SLING LEAD AT FEBRUARY SHOOT |
||||
| Yehaw! We had another good crowd of cow folk at the February shoot. 48 cowboys & cowgirls had a fine ole time shootin' bad guys and bears and gallopin' rabbits. We kept things amovin' with 5 posses and 5 shootin stages. The shootin' was pretty good too. 30 of the 48 shooters shot at least 1 stage without missing any targets. Ole Tri shot 4 out of the 5 stages without a miss. He also won the shootin' match as the Top Gun - Cowboy. | ||||

In the meetin' after the shoot, a lotta stuff was
discussed. It was decided that we would use the SASS shootin' rules.
(That really means it was voted to start shootin' a Gunfighter category.
We've been using the other SASS rules since 1997) Then we talked about the new targets that have been bought by the Marauders and Leadmine Gang since January. They work real good too. When you hit one, it goes
clanggg. In fact some of them clangs are louder than some of them light loads some cowboys shoot.
Buckeye spoke up and pointed out that we gave a handful of Buffalo shoot certificates at our Christmas celebration and ain't had a Buffalo shoot since that time. So, he volunteered to take charge of a Buffalo Shoot at our March shootout. Thanks was said to the following cowboys for settin' up the range so the rest of us waddies could shoot: Horseshoe John, Mountain Man, Pleasant, Tennessee Hoss, and Tennessee Red. A big thank you was said to ole Pleasant. He supplied the material and made several new loadin' and unloadin' tables. A thanks is also in order to the Leadmine Gang...they bought 2 new canopies to use at our shoots. Finally, several cowboys brought up the topic of the Marauders and Leadmine Gang doing a feasibility study to investigate the possibility of hosting the 2002 Tennessee State Cowboy Action Shooting Match. Such a shoot would be at least a 2-day event. Both the Knoxville club (Smoky Mountain Shootists Society) and the Nashville club (The Wartrace Regulators) have expressed an interest in making such a state shoot a 4-club affair. Charlie Bowdre, the Territorial Governor of the Wartrace Regulators, is supposed to visit us on the Friday night before our March shoot and take a look at our shootin' facilities. What will be the result of all this? Who knows, pardner. That's the nature of a feasibility study. In one of them studies, you look at all the good things that can happen, all the stuff you've got to do, all the stuff you need, how much money it'll cost to do it, how much money you could make, and how you might lose your butt. Then you decide whether you want to take a chance and do it. Right now, the State Shoot idea is still an egg under the hen. It ain't hatched yet. Before it might hatch, there'll be much more discussion about it. |

HAPPY TRAILS, DALE EVANS |
||||
|
Dale Evans Queen of the West |
||||
|
All of us Marauders who are in our late 40's and older know Dale
Evans. She was the "Queen of the West", and she rode with "The King Of The Cowboys",
Roy Rogers, on and off the silver screen for more than 50 years.
Feisty, opinionated, and full of life on and off the screen, she, embodied the American Cowgirl.
And now, like Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Rex Allen, The Lone Ranger
(Clayton Moore), Randolph Scott, Tex Ritter, Hopalong Cassidy (Bill
Boyd), Will Bill Elliott, and all the rest, except Clint Eastwood, Dale's gone to the last round-up.
In February, Dale departed this existence. But to all of us over-aged cowboys and cowgirls that grew up in the 40's and 50's, she still lives in our memories…. Just like Roy and all the other six-gun packin' cowboys of our youth. And in our memories, they're all still young, and they still shoot fast & straight, they don't have to reload, and the good guys & gals always win. That's the way it's supposed to be. It's a shame real life ain't like that, ain't it? Goodbye, Dale Evans, and Happy Trails To You. |
