63 SHOOTERS AT FEBRUARY SHOOT!

February 23rd was a bit chilly, but it was sunny...and we had a terrific shoot. To begin the day, we had several new members join the gang.  A number of visitors rode in to join the round-up and shoot with us.  In fact one cowboy came all the way from Maryland.  And thanks to the Cleveland Hunting Rifle and Pistol Club, we had 2 new pistol ranges to shoot on.

The scenarios had a Valentine Day flavor.  We shot hearts, impressed and protected our Valentines, and shot a lot of targets in the process.  Thanks to stage no. 5, that had all stationary shotgun targets, 56 of 63 shooters shot at least 1 stage with no missed targets.  Ol' T-Bone wrote the scenarios, and the ol' feller did a good job, as usual.  So did Horseshoe John and the cowboys who helped him set up the range on Friday.  Tellico was 1 of the range set-up cowboys.  I'm sorry, but I don't remember the others, but thanks, pardners.  You helped make our shoot a success.

We also had 2 new posse marshals in February.  Cruel Hand Luke and Tennessee Coal Cracker strapped on their six-shooters and lead their posses out to play our game.

Pappy's Proverbs

Have you ever heard of Maverick?  Now, I'm talking about Bret Maverick the cowboy character, not the feller in the airplane movie.  Well, he and his brother were always goin' round gettin' in trouble and quotin' their dear ol' pappy.  Evidently Pappy was pert near as good a philosopher as Shadrack Jones.  Here's some of Pappy's wisdom:

>   Flattery is like perfume - smell it, but don't swallow it.

>   Never play in a rigged game, unless you rig it yourself. (This sounds like the Ohio Kid.)

When it comes to the game of life, by the time most of us are familiar with the rules, we're generally too old to play it.
