APRIL SHOOT DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF |
Longhorn Larry Larue A good cowboy from us has gone. |
Longhorn Larry Larue (Dale Niles) died suddenly at his home on April 21st. He walked out into his garage, fell over, and died. A memorial service was held on Tuesday April 24th. Longhorn Larry Larue truly enjoyed the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting. He became a cowboy shooter and Marauder in October of 2000. There will be an article in his memory in the April Marauder. A version of this posting, without the info below the picture will be posted at each shooting stage site at the April 28th shoot. |

45 GUNSLINGERS AT MARCH SHOOT |
by Deadman |
At the March Shoot-out, 45 gunslingers strapped on their shootin' irons and set out to clean up the town. Using an old line from the movies, the bad guys all got "out of town before sundown."
Of course most of the good guys & gals also got out of town by sundown.
Shootin' 5 stages with 5 posses, the main match was completed by 3:00
p.m., and that was with a 30 minute lunch break near midday.
Visitors this month included Wartrace Regulators Territorial Governor Charlie Bowdre and his Mrs. and shootin' pardner, Sassy Lora...with a couple of their gunslick compaderes, Will Reilly and Digger Graves. They visited with us to do some shootin' and to provide information to us about what would be required of us if we undertake conducting the 2002 Tennessee State Cowboy Action Shooting Championship. |

On stage 4 during the shoot, Blayde Hollister hit 1 pistol target, and the bullet glanced off and hit a rifle target behind it. Ramblin' Ron said, "Hey! Blayde should get a bonus for hittin' 2 targets with 1 shot." Not impressed, Horseshoe John replied, "No. He should get a procedural. That 2nd target was shot out of order." Some people just ain't easily impressed. What else happened? In the Buffalo Shoot, Bean Pot, Tennessee Jake, and Trail Bones all reported clean shoots. A clean shoot for these cowboys, according to Bean Pot, meant that each fired 3 shots, missed the buffalo, and didn't even knock any dirt on it. Horseshoe John won the Buffalo Shoot, with Outrider comin' in 2nd. Both hit 3 for 3 shootin' from the bench. Then in the shoot off, standing on their 2 hind leggs, Horse-shoe John hit 2 for 2, and Outrider couldn't match that performance. Who were the top 5 shooters of the day? Well, goin' from 1st place to 5th, it looked like this: (1) Charlie Bowdre (2) Will Reilly (3) Tri (4) Digger Graves (5) Sassy Lora. |

WORK DAY ON THE RANGE |
by T-Bone |
| I want to thank a bunch of cowboys for working on the range to get ready for spring shooting. On Saturday, March 17th, 11 of us gathered at the range and cleaned up trash, tidied up the target shack, put up range posts and boards, and generally did a cowboy spring cleaning. Earlier in the week, Mad Dog Joe went out and did a good bit of cleaning himself. Mad Dog's been recuperating from surgery and hasn't been able to shoot with us for a while, but he went out and put in a day of cleaning. | ||||

Mad Dog Joe - One of the Clean-Up Cowboys |
| The cowboys who rode out to the range on the 17th and did a super job of clean up were Hondo, Ramblin' Ron, Buckeye, Tri, Pleasant, Bean Pot, Horseshoe John, Double Barrel, Longhorn Larry, and Trail Bones. (Trail Bones loaded the wagon he made by himself and brought it back out to the range for our use.) | ||||

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING |
by T-Bone |
Following the clean up, an Executive Board Meeting was held. Participating were
myself (T-Bone), Horseshoe John, Bean Pot,and Calamity.
Deadman couldn't attend, but he called Horseshoe John and registered his opinion and vote on some of the topics discussed in the meeting.
Here are the results of the meeting.
Shooting Gunfighter: We will begin having a gunfighter category at our shoots. In order to shoot gunfighter, each person who wants to shoot in the category will have to get Pleasant's verbal approval that he/she can safely shoot in that category. All gunfighters will shoot in Pleasant's posse until enough posse marshals become familiar with scoring, observing, etc. Not everyone who wants to shoot gunfighter will initially get to shoot in the category because of balancing the number of shooters in each posse. Awards: Beginning in March, we will no longer give Top Gun Cowboy or Cowgirl awards. We'll award certificates in each of the following categories: Traditional, Modern, Duelist, Gunfighter, and Senior. Scoring: Beginning with the March shoot, we'll no longer complete scoring and award certificates on the day of the shoot. Deadman gets the newsletter out usually not later than a week and a half and gets the Marauder to Tennessee Justice to go on the website before that. So, everybody gets their shooting results pretty fast. By not scoring on the day of the shoot, it'll get us finished sooner. |

High Noon Meals:
At High Noon, we'll stop shooting for 30 minutes and have lunch.
Anyone shooting will complete shooting that stage, and then the posse will break for lunch.
30 minutes later, we resume shooting.
Charge For Meals: Beginning at our April shoot, meals will cost $4. We're taking this action to recover the cost of meals. We think that you would want us to spend our money on more targets, timers, clay targets (pigeons & rabbits), canopies, and other needs to facilitate our shooting. (For example all our props - saloon door, wagon, saddles, horses, and the building have been contributed by individual club members. We may want to build some more.) Buffalo Shoot Tickets: To help Buckeye, our Buffalo Shoot Marshal, each cowboy / cowgirl who pays to shoot in the Buffalo Shoot will be given a buffalo ticket when they register to shoot. Buckeye will collect the buffalo tickets at the Buffalo Shoot site. 2002 Tennessee State Cowboy Action Shoot: At the February shoot meeting, a proposal was made to consider sponsoring / conducting the 2002 Tennessee State CAS Championship, in cooperation with the Cleveland Hunting Rifle and Pistol Club and the Knoxville and Nashville Cowboy Action Shooting clubs. It was mentioned in the February meeting that a feasibility study would be conducted to determine whether we should undertake the project. Deadman prepared a preliminary group of topics and questions that should be considered and answered in the feasibility study. The questions were discussed and presented to Pleasant to be used in the feasibility study. Horseshoe John suggested several additional questions to be added to the document that was discussed in the meeting. That's a run-down of what went on in the Executive Board Meeting. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact me (T-Bone), or another club officer. Thanks again to all the Clean-up Cowboys. T-Bone |

AN EMPTY SADDLE AND A GOOD MAN'S PASSING |

Our good friend and fellow cowboy Heartbreak Bill died
Monday morning, March 26th of a heart attack. I know that Bill will be sorely missed by all of
us. Those who did not know him personally, knew him, nonetheless, by his works.
He gave of himself freely to the club, to the community, to the things he believed in, and to his family and friends.
He was a man to ride the river with, never shirking work or responsibility, always glad to lend a hand, and
always with a smile and kind word for friend and stranger alike. We will miss Bill greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Linda (Tennessee Trouble) and I know that she knows that she can call on any of us if there is anything that we can do to give her aid or comfort. Adios, Bill. You were a fine man and a fine cowboy. You enriched our lives by your example. |
