 MARAUDERS IN MAY

Attendance was down a little at the May shoot.  We had to compete with the Shoot Out At Mule Camp (Gainesville, GA. …. the biggest SASS shoot east of the Mississippi River), the Shoot Out At Rabbit Ridge, MS … (the TN, Al, & MS State Championships shoot), and traveling on the long holiday weekend.  But, we still had 44 shooters and several visiting observers.  The stages were fun to shoot.  Ol' Trail Bones wrote them to honor the Leadmine Gang, Ol' Pleasant & Ol' Tri.  So naturally, neither Pleasant nor Tri was present. (That sorta sounds poetic,  Pleasant wasn't present)  Pleasant was away shootin' in Mississippi.  Tri?  Well, we ain't guessin' where that ol' cowboy was.  He just wasn't where he usually is on the 4th Saturday of the month.

On one stage, the shooter was supposed to rob Pleasant & Tri at the Leadmine.  He/she was to stage his/her rifle in the stand along side ol' Pleasant's rifle, a gen-u-wine Daisy Red Ryder BB Rifle. Then the shooter was supposed to pick up ol' Pleasant's rifle, flip the lever, and shoot the center pistol target, ol' Pleasant.  The shooter couldn't engage the other targets until he hit ol' Pleasant with the BB gun.

At one point, ol' Trail Bones said, "That's not really Pleasant's rifle." To which Tinker Chapley replied, "I know. It's got more power than Pleasant's rifle."

How would ol' Pleasant have taken this good-natured ribbing if he'd been present?  He'd of grinned, maybe blushed a little, and laughed.  Ol' Pleasant's not only a very good shot, he's a gentleman, a good sport, and a generally all round fine feller.

OUT ON THE RANGE

Happiness is a new hat.  Just ask Jack Rabbit Bob if that ain't true. Smokey Steele holds "Pleasant's rifle", a real Red Ryder air rifle with carved stock & saddle ring, and it's ammo:  a box of BB's.
